1 Division Hosts Inter-Brigade Warrant Officers and Senior Non Commissioned Officers Competition 2023

1 Division Nigerian Army has flagged off her annual Warrant Officers(WOs) and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers(SNCOs)Competition 2023 at the Nigerian Defence Academy Sports Complex Ribadu Cantonment today Monday 3 July 2023.

The Special Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony and immediate past Commander 453 Base Service Group Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore AA Adedoyin in his remarks stated that the current security challenges in the country has brought to fore the need to continuously reinvigorate training and operations especially in the aspects of physical and leadership training. He said the competition is aimed at ensuring leadership qualities and developing high level of initiative among the middle cadre SNCOs as well as promoting esprit de corps which is the bedrock of the military profession all over the world.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander 1 Division Garrison, Brig Gen C Ogbuabo stated that the WOs and SNCOs Competition 2023 was timely as there are growing concerns on the need for the Nigerian Army to build on the gains already achieved in tackling the insecurity confronting the Nation.

Gen Ogbuabo further added that adequate arrangement had been put in place to achieve the ultimate goal of the competition which is in line with the Chief Of Army Staff command philosophy. He used the opportunity to thank the Chief of Army Staff Maj Gen TA Lagbaja NAM and the General Officer Commanding 1 Division for providing the needed resources for the competition.

About three brigades in 1 Division Area of Responsibility are competing for various exercises ranging from weapon handling, stripping and assembling, map reading and point to point exercises. The competing brigades include 1 Division Garrison Kaduna, 3 Brigade Kano and 31 Artillery Brigade Minna.

Climax of the opening ceremony was a presentation of souvenir to the SGOH and a group photograph.
