10 DEAD, 50 UNDERGOING KIDNEY TREATMENT AFTER CONSUMING POISONOUS FRUIT JUICE IN KANO

10 persons have been confirmed dead while 400 others are hospitalized after the consumption of a poisonous fruit juice, the Kano State Government said on Thursday.

Dr. Aminu Tsanyawa, the State’s Commissioner for Health, who made the announcement to newsmen, also said about 50 persons are also undergoing treatment for kidney-related ailments following the consumption of the poisonous drink.

He said: “As you are aware, the Ministry of Health had in the recent past announced the outbreak of a strange disease traceable to the consumption of a substandard drink.

“The consumption of this fake and substandard product has telling effects on the kidney and other vital organs of the body.

“Due to excessive heat that coincides with Ramadan, there is a possibility for high patronage of juices.

“I want to use this opportunity to caution residents to be on the watch-out.”

Recall, exactly one month ago, we reported that three persons died from a mysterious disease in Kano State.

The disease, whose outbreak was recorded on March 10, was suspected to be caused by consumption of contaminated flavor and a brand of expired instant drink products. 284 persons were infected with the disease in 13 local government areas of the State.
