14 Brigade Garrison Ohafia Hosts Fourth-Quarter Civil-Military Activity 2025

In a vibrant display of unity and sportsmanship, 14 Brigade Garrison Ohafia, hosted a novelty football match on 20 September 2025 at the Ohafia Local Government Secretariat Sports Pavilion.

The much-anticipated encounter between the Dragon Boys and Ohafia FC drew an impressive crowd of community leaders, dignitaries, and residents. Among the distinguished guests was His Royal Highness Igwe Ukoha of Ebem Ohafia, Chief Chinenye Mba of Akanu Ohafia, Prince Engineer Chukwuma Udensi who was represented by His Royal Highness, Eze Ogo Awa Orji Udensi the Udumenze of Ohafia alongside other traditional rulers and community stakeholders.

Representing the Commander 14 Brigade, Brigadier General Hassan Bello, the Garrison Commander, Lieutenant Colonel AA Ango warmly welcomed all dignitaries and spectators to the Brigade’s Garrison Fourth-quarter Civil–Military Activity. He expressed profound appreciation to the Royal Father of the Day, His Royal Highness Igwe Ukoha of Ebem Ohafia, as well as the Special Guest of Honour, the Mayor of Ohafia, Chief Engineer Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, and every member of the community for honouring the Brigade’s invitation.

Lieutenant Colonel Ango highlighted that the novelty match transcended friendly competition, describing it as a symbol of the enduring partnership between the Nigerian Army and the good people of Ohafia. He stressed that such engagements strengthen mutual trust, promote peace and security, and nurture the spirit of unity essential for national development.

He concluded by encouraging both teams to uphold fair play and true sportsmanship, assuring the community of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property while sustaining the cordial civil–military relationship enjoyed across Abia State.

The Special Guest of Honour, the Mayor of Ohafia, Chief Engineer Eleanya Ojuu Kalu who was ably represented by Honourable David Nkole, Security Adviser to the Mayor commended the Nigerian Army for the initiative, noting that the event was not merely about football but also about fostering peace and deepening community ties.

Highlights of the day included the presentation of the winner’s trophy and a group photograph with dignitaries and players from both teams.
