35 Artillery Brigade Wins Combat Proficiency Competition As GOC 81 Division Declares The Competition Closed

The 81 Division Nigerian Army Combat Proficiency Competition 2023 has been declared closed today 17 August 2023 by the General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General MT Usman, represented by the Commander 81 Division Garrison, Brigadier General MA Sadiq, at Ibereko barracks, Badagry Lagos.

35 Artillery Brigade emerged overall winner of the competition, followed by 9 Brigade, 45 Division Engineers Brigade and 81 Division Garrison.

Trophies were presented to deserving formations who won the overall first position, individual award and medal for officers who distinguished themselves as best swimmer, best firer and best gateway man in obstacle crossing.

The week long annual competition was declared opened on 14 August 2023 with 4 participating formations within the Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR) namely; 9 Brigade, 35 Artillery Brigade, 45 Engineers Brigade and 81 Division Garrison competing for the trophies.

The participating formations showed the stuff they are made-of in Map Reading, Combat swimming, Weapon Handling and Obstacle Crossing.

The SGOH in his closing remarks described training has a cardinal pillar of the Chief of Army Staff Command Philosophy, which is according to him is, “To Transform the Nigerian Army into a Well-trained, Equiped and Highly Motivated Force Towards Achieving our Constitutional Responsibilities Within a Joint Environment.”

He noted that the country is currently experiencing myriad of security challenges such as insurgency, kidnapping, militancy, armed robbery amongst others which he said requires upscaling the levels of training of military personnel in order to be well equipped to combat these challenges effectively.

He said one of such areas of training is the conduct of Combat Proficiency Competition for officers. He congratulated the participating units and officers for putting up highly commendable performances which according to him contributed to the success of the competition.

The Combat event was concluded successfully without any casualty.
