6 Feared Dead in Kenya as Suspended Student Attacks Own School

It has been a very bloody morning in a Kenyan Boarding School, AIC Lokichogio Secondary School in Turkana County, after a suspended student of the school led an attack on the school early this morning.

At least five students and a security guard have been shot and killed in the dawn attack of the school in Northern Kenya. Two girls were also alleged to have been raped while at least 18 people have also been injured

According to reports, the attack was allegedly orchestrated ed by a former student who had been suspended. According to the head teacher, the boy – said to be from nearby South Sudan – had been suspended after he fought with another pupil.

He later returned to the dormitories at the school in Lokichogio on Saturday with two accomplices and they went on rampage. Sources claim that the accomplices are members of a militia group in South Sudan.

Turkana County Commissioner Seif Matata told Kenya’s Daily Nation newspaper that the suspect “was heard telling fellow students that he is going to burn the school or he will come back and avenge because of the suspension“.

Turkana County Governor, Josphat Nanok condemned the attack on innocent students.

It is a sad day for Turkana County. The security arms should follow the matter to ascertain the true motive and bring those behind it to book,” he said.

Kenya has been a hot spot for violence in recent times following violent protests and attacks as a result of the overcharged political atmosphere. But this attack on innocent school students is most worrisome.
