8 Division Marks Nigerian Army’s 163rd Anniversary With Special Interdenominational Church Service In Sokoto

The Headquarters 8 Division has held a Special Interdenominational Church Service as part of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026 activities commemorating the Nigerian Army’s 163rd anniversary. The solemn interdenominational service took place on Sunday, 28 June 2026, at Bartholomew Military Church (Protestant), Giginya Military Cantonment, Sokoto.

Delivering the goodwill message of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, highlighted the NADCEL 2026 theme: “Protecting the Nation and Serving the People: A Way Forward for the Nigerian Army.”

The GOC described the theme as a clarion call for reflection, renewal, and rededication to the institution’s core values. He emphasized that the occasion provided an opportunity to thank Almighty God for His continuous mercies and guidance, while reflecting on the Army’s monumental accomplishments and honouring fallen heroes.

Major General Koughna commended officers and soldiers for their unwavering sacrifices and professionalism. He reiterated the COAS’ dedication to building a professional, combat-ready, and welfare-driven force anchored on the “Soldier First” philosophy.

The GOC paid glowing tributes to the gallant personnel of the Division who have made the supreme sacrifice in defence of the nation.

The interdenominational service was led by Acting Deputy Director Chaplain Services (Roman Catholic), 8 Division Lieutenant Colonel RS Bwami.Fervent prayers were offered for the peace, security, and progress of Nigeria, its leadership, the Armed Forces, and all personnel deployed across various operational theatres.

The well-attended event included formation commanders, staff officers, soldiers, members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), and other distinguished guests.
