Nigeria Police Reacts To Viral Video Involving A Young Boy at Rt. Hon. Tajuddeen Abbas’ Campaign Rally in Zaria
The Kaduna State Police Command has noted a viral video circulating on social media concerning an incident that occurred in Zaria during a campaign rally attended by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajuddeen Abbas. The video falsely claims that a young APC supporter who sought the Speaker’s attention for medical assistance was arrested by the Police.
To set the record straight, the boy sustained multiple fractures to his right hand. After initially seeking treatment from a traditional bone setter, which worsened his condition, he was advised to seek the Speaker’s help for proper medical care, as his family could not afford treatment. This prompted his actions at the rally.
The boy was not arrested. He was invited to the station for clarification and attended voluntarily, accompanied by his blind father and other relatives. Preliminary findings show that while in the front row, he extended his injured hand to attract the Speaker’s attention. Due to the crowd and pressure from behind, the situation was misunderstood and captured in the viral video.
After verifying the facts, the boy spent less than one hour at the station before being allowed to leave peacefully with his father.
The Command urges members of the public to refrain from spreading false or misleading information that could cause unnecessary tension. We advise residents to verify information from credible and official sources before sharing, particularly on matters affecting security and public peace.
