
Mrs Catherine Diwa Assumes Office As The 16th Chairperson Of NAOWA 7 Division Chapter
The handing and taking over ceremony of the Chairperson, Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), between Mrs Onyinye Unachukwu and Mrs Catherine Diwa, was held on 13 May 2026 at the Multipurpose Hall of NAOWA secretariat in Maimalari Military Cantonment, Maiduguri.
The event which featured cultural displays, choreography, presentation of handing over notes as well as the NAOWA flag, marked the formal transition of leadership. Goodwill messages from both the erstwhile and incoming chairpersons added colours to the ceremony.
In her brief, the erstwhile Chairperson, Mrs Onyinye Unachukwu, congratulated her successor on the deserved appointment of her dear husband as the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, hence her possession as the 16th Chairperson of the Noble NAOWA of the division’s chapter. Mrs Unachukwu highlighted some of the achievements under her watch and affirmed some projects and programmes that are ongoing including the construction of Skill Acquisition Centre which she said was at the final stage of completion was meant to benefit the barracks populace.
Mrs Unachukwu however expressed confidence in the ability of her successor to completing the pending projects and sustain the progress achieved so far.
In her response, Mrs Catherine Diwa who as the substantive chairperson having taken over the mantle of leadership appreciated her predecessor for her contributions and dedication to the growth of NAOWA and uplifting humanity.
She stated that her humanitarian service within the 7 Division area of responsibility has been highly commendable while pledging to sustain the legacy and add more to achieving the vision of the National president of NAOWA Mrs Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu which is “To have a unified and innovative NAOWA that empowers military families through self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.”
Mrs Diwa urged members to continue placing God first in all their endeavors, while calling for unity and cooperation among members of the association.
High point of the event were the symbolic presentation of handover note and NAOWA Flag, as well as exchange of gifts between both the erstwhile and present chairpersons, entertainment from various traditional cultural groups.
