
Nigerian Army Armour School Equips Young Officers With Leadership Tools At Junior Leadership Lecture
The Nigerian Army Armour School has strengthened the leadership capacity of Young Officers Course 59/26 through a targeted lecture on discipline, initiative and self-development, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency across the Nigerian Army. The lecture tittked,
“JUNIOR LEADERSHIP IN THE NIGERIAN ARMY: BUILDING DISCIPLINE INITIATIVE AND CONTINUOUS SELF IMPROVEMENT FOR OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY” was held at the Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya Auditorium, Nigerian Army Armour School, (NAAS) on 17 June 2026, Obienu Barracks, Bauchi State.
Major General OO Oshinowo (Rtd) delivered the lecture, which centered on building leadership capacity and professionalism in junior officers. The retired senior officer highlighted self-awareness, delegation, discipline, mentorship, competence, and professionalism as key attributes of effective command. He noted that junior leaders are the vital link between other ranks and Commanders, with their conduct directly impacting unit effectiveness.
Earlier In his welcome remarks, the Commandant, Major General Abubakar Ahmed, described the resource person as a seasoned mentor to officers of the Armour Corps and the Nigerian Army in general. He said the lecture was designed to address leadership challenges and roles at the junior level and urged students to maximize the opportunity through active engagement and learning from the speaker’s wealth of experience.
An interactive session followed, allowing participants to seek clarification and gain deeper insights on practical leadership issues.
Concluding the session, Deputy Commandant Brigadier General Alhassan Mohammed Haruna thanked Major General Oshinowo for sharing his knowledge and experiences with the young officers. He charged the young officers to be trustworthy, lead by example and take sound decisions within their level of authority in order to become effective leaders in the future.
