New Nigerian Air Force Education Project Brings Hope To Thousands Of Students, Strengthens Quality Learning In Ogun

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians beyond its constitutional responsibility of defending the nation’s territorial integrity with the commissioning of the Chief of the Air Staff Special Intervention Project, facilitated by Air Vice Marshal Sayo Olatunde (Rtd), at Baptist High School, Ilaro, Ogun State. The newly completed project, inaugurated on 30 June 2026, will provide a more conducive learning environment for students, ease classroom congestion, and help restore critical science facilities, creating better opportunities for quality education and brighter futures for generations of learners.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, who was represented by the Director of Cooperation and Coordination at Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Christopher Enejo Akpa, stated that the project reflects the NAF’s enduring commitment to positively impacting communities through meaningful non-kinetic interventions. He noted that education remains one of the most powerful tools for national development, stressing that the Service will continue to invest in initiatives that improve the welfare of Nigerians while strengthening the bond between the military and the communities it serves. He commended the facilitator, Air Vice Marshal Sayo Olatunde (Rtd), for identifying a project that directly addresses a pressing educational need and urged the school authorities and students to preserve the facility for the benefit of present and future generations.

In his remarks, the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Special Adviser on Education, lauded the Nigerian Air Force for demonstrating that national security extends beyond military operations to include investments that improve the quality of life of citizens. Earlier, the facilitator, Air Vice Marshal Sayo Olatunde (Rtd), explained that the project was conceived to address a longstanding challenge confronting the school. He revealed that science laboratories, originally constructed about four decades ago, had over the years been converted into classrooms due to inadequate learning spaces. According to him, the newly constructed Air Force Legacy Building will accommodate students currently occupying those laboratories, thereby freeing the facilities for comprehensive renovation and restoration to their original purpose.
