Abrahamovic Was Never my Friend – Jose Mourinho
Ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend, Jose Mourinho has raised the temperatures by insisting he and billionaire owner of Chelsea, Roman Abramovich were never friends, Mirror writes.
Shortly after Mourinho’s success with FC Porto in the 2004 Champions League final, Abramovich signed the Portuguese who’ll later become the most successful boss in the Blues’ history before his sack in 2007.
The Special One was rehired three years ago for a second spell at Stamford Bridge and led the Londoners to a third Premier League title the following season.
However, it all unravelled last season, as Mourinho was sacked by Abramovich and the Chelsea board for a second time, with the champions facing the bizarre prospect of a relegation fight.
With the deck stacked that way ahead of his potentially explosive return to Chelsea for the first time since his dismissal last year, the 53-year-old insisted he was never close to Abramovich.
“He was never my friend,” said Mourinho during the pre-match press conference.
“We always had the relationship of owner-manager, a very respectful relationship.
“We were never friends. We were never close to each other. So, no. He’s just a person that I keep very respected.”
Out of respect for his former club, Mou has promised there’ll be no wild celebrations should United run away with the three points Sunday.
