
Apply What You Have Learnt To Real Life – Director General, Nigerian Army Resource Centre Abuja
The Director General, Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), Major General GA Wahab (Rtd), at the graduation ceremony of a 3-day workshop on the use of DNA technology to enhance national security, held on Thursday, 3 July 2025, lauded the facilitators, Sentinel Forensics Limited, directors, and senior research fellows for their roles in the success of the workshop.
In his remarks, the Director General commended the participants for their commitment and urged them to apply the knowledge acquired during the training to real-life security challenges. He also encouraged them to maintain strong professional networks and continue engaging with one another beyond the Centre.
The workshop was designed to equip military personnel and civilian participants with practical knowledge of DNA technology and its relevance to national security. It aimed to strengthen their capacity in forensic investigation, intelligence gathering, identity verification, and inter-agency collaboration—particularly in combating terrorism, addressing criminal cases, and identifying victims in mass casualty incidents.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the participants, the Course Senior, Colonel N Mohammed, highlighted the importance of the training in key areas such as forensic science, DNA applications in criminal investigations, strategies for achieving national security objectives, and the challenges and relevance of a DNA database to national security.
He expressed appreciation to the Director General, Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Major General GA Wahab (Rtd); the Director General, Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Professor John Oladapo Obafunwa; the Course Coordinator, Mr. Joseph Kayode Funsho; as well as Sentinel Forensics Limited and its management team. He also thanked the directors of NARC present at the ceremony, guest lecturers, and other resource persons for their contributions.
Colonel Mohammed commended the facilitators for their professionalism and tireless efforts in delivering a successful workshop and appreciated his fellow participants for their dedication. He assured the Director General, NARC, that the knowledge gained would be applied by the participants in their various services and organisations to enhance national security and contribute to the well-being of Nigeria.
The climax of the ceremony was the presentation of a souvenir to the Director General, NIMR, Professor John Oladapo Obafunwa, the presentation of certificates to participants, and a group photograph at the NARC photo stand.
