Armed Men Raid University of Port Harcout Hostel, Rob Female Students of Valuables
A group of armed men yesterday raided a students’ hostel, Grace and Mercy Lodge, located along Health Centre road, Omuokiri in Aluu community, Ikwerre Local government area of Rivers State.
According to Daily Post, the hostel is mostly occupied by female students of the University of Port Harcourt, and the Robbers struck at a time when the students had all just returned from a long closure of the school.
Some of the items taken from the females who occupy 8 out of the 9 rooms in the building, include laptops, mobile phones, ATM Cards, cash, clothes, electronics and other valuable items.
“I was in my room when one of neighbours sent me a text message that there are some people in the compound, but she doesn’t know who they are,” one of the students told Daily Post.
“I didn’t really take it serious. It was when she called me and said the same thing that I now realised the seriousness of her message. Before I knew it, some young boys with guns and machetes just stormed my room and took my money, my laptop and other things,” she continued.
“That was how they entered seven other rooms,” she added.
It is unclear if the police were alerted following the invasion because as at the time of the publication, no arrests had been made.
