Army, Air Force Commit To Closer Working Relations

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army/ Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has pledged the commitment of the Division to closer working relations with the Nigerian Air Force. The GOC made the commitment when the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Tactical Air Command, Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshall Francis Edosa, paid him a courtesy visit today in Port Harcourt Barracks.

The GOC remarked that the AOC is a brother and a course mate, which makes operating together within a joint environment more effective. Recounting the advantage of the Air Component in an operating theatre as the Niger Delta where illegal refiners are forced to move deeper into the swamps and forests owing to increased pressure from ground troops, the GOC noted that the Air Component beyond reaching deep to take out illegal refineries, has the added advantage of being a force multiplier.

The GOC recalled the series of important operations conducted with 115 Special Operations Group and pledged greater support and closer working relations. The GOC stated that the Armed Forces is capable of ending all the security challenges in the country and that the Division will play its role to ensure that is achieved.

Earlier, the Air Officer Commanding, Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshall Francis Edosa appreciated the warm reception accorded him. He equally commended and applauded the leadership role of the GOC in the achievement of operational end states.

He described the operating environment of the Niger Delta as complex but expressed confidence in the ability of the GOC to manage the complexities. The AOC observed that the task of the Division is most strategic and critical. Observing that the volume of critical national infrastructure in the domain of the Division makes the Division the flag ship Division in the country, hence the need for support and collaboration. He pledged the availability of platforms in support of operations in the region.

Highpoint of the visit was the inspection of Quarter Guard, presentation of souvenir to commemorate the visit and group photograph.
