Army Headquarters Conducts 32nd Edition Of Nigerian Army Social Media Influencers Seminar In Damaturu

In line with the Nigerian Army non-kinetic line of operation aimed at fostering cordial civil-military relations, the 32nd edition of Nigerian Army Social Media Influencers Seminar was held in Damaturu, Yobe State on 7 March 2024. The theme of the seminar was “Emerging Trends on the Social Media: Implication on National Security” in order to enlighten Nigerian youths on the implication of disseminating fake news and inciting contents on the social media platform that are threat to national security. The seminar recorded large attendance of social media influencers, bloggers and online content creators as well as students of tertiary institution within Yobe State and it environ.

In his opening remarks, the Special Guest of Honour, the Theatre Commander Operation Hadin Kai Major General W Shaibu and he was ably represented by the Commander Sector 2 Operation Hadin Kai Major General MLD Saraso reminded the participants at the Seminar of the devastating security impact on the society of any misuse of social media platform. He admonished participants not to be a source of breech to the relative peace and security of Yobe State in particular and Nigeria in general. The Chief of Civil-Military Affairs (CCMA), Major General NC Ugbo in his welcome address, he stated that security of our dear nation is a collective responsibility, therefore the Nigerian Army and other security agencies cannot do it alone. The CCMA therefore enjoined them on the need to pay attention to their environment and support the activities of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the country at ensuring a peaceful and economic viable environment in Yobe State and Nigeria.

During the Seminar, participants listened to presentation on activities of the Nigerian Army, and thereafter two carefully tailored lectures in line with theme of the Seminar were delivered. The first lecture titled “The Responsibility of Social Media Influencers and Bloggers in Promoting National Cohesion and Security was delivered by Dr Ehiz Odigie while the second paper titled Responsible Behaviour on Social Media and Implication for National Security was presented by Dr Lawan Cheri. The presentations elicited impressive and interesting interactive session where participants asked germane questions, clear their doubts and put forward suggestions for consideration.

Other dignitaries who attended the seminar were Senior Special Adviser on Security to the Yobe State Governor, Brigadier General D Abdulsalam (retired), Yobe State Commissioner for Information, representative of security agencies in Yobe State and other personalities. The major highlights of the Seminar were presentation of goodwill messages, presentation of gifts and souvenirs to guests, dignitaries, and resource persons as well as group photographs.
