Army War College Nigeria Hosts National Defence College Tanzania, Strengthens Collaboration, Transnational Security Challenges

The participants of National Defence College Tanzania Course 12/2024 embarked on a visit to the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN), led by the team leader Commodore Baganchewera Traseas Rutambuka. The visit, held on 16 April 2024 at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai Auditorium in AWCN WU Bassey Barracks, Asokoro Abuja. The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the two prestigious institutions.

Commodore Rutambuka in his remarks conveyed the goodwill message of the Commandant of NDC Tanzania, Maj Gen WA Ibuge, and expressed gratitude for the warm reception received at the AWCN. He further stated that the theme of the tour was, “Enhancing Government Policy Making and Implementation for National Productive Capacity and Capability Development,” and also outlined the objectives of the visit.

Commodore Rutambuka mentioned that the participants were divided into three teams, with one team visiting Egypt, another visiting South Africa, and the third visiting Nigeria. He emphasized the longstanding relationship between NDC Tanzania and the Army War College Nigeria, noting that NDC Tanzania has trained approximately 15 senior officers from the Armed Forces of Nigeria since 2014, with three officers currently undergoing the course.

In his remarks, the Commandant AWCN Major General Ishaya Maina, ably represented by the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies, Brigadier General AM Umar, welcomed the participants and underscored the importance of collaboration in addressing trans-national security challenges. He stated that the visit would facilitate the exchange of ideas and experiences between the two institutions, ultimately contributing to the enhancement of security cooperation.

In his vote of thanks, Colonel Ajay Mohan expressed gratitude on behalf of the participants for the warm hospitality and insightful discussions extended by AWCN. He then acknowledged the efforts of the AWCN leadership, members of faculty, and staff in facilitating the visit. He highlighted the value of such interactions in fostering mutual understanding, enhancing professional engagements, and addressing common challenges faced by military institutions in the region.

Highlight of the event were presentation of souvenirs, a tour of the College facilities, and group photographs. The visit marked another milestone in the efforts to strengthen collaboration and promote mutual learning between NDC Tanzania and AWCN in addressing contemporary security challenges bedevelling the continent.
