After a chastening season that saw Arsenal finish outside the Champions League places, old dog Arsene Wenger appears to have learnt some new tricks as he’s to shed his frugal nature and break the bank for Monaco teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe.

Wenger has reportedly tabled a world record £122 million bid for Mbappe, 18, in addition to promising him the club’s No9 shirt as a deal sweetener.

According to a report by the Sun, Arsenal boss Wenger was at his charming best in his pursuit of the hotshot striker, telling him that the coveted shirt is his.

Wenger, in the company of club CEO Ivan Gazidis, was spotted just 13 miles from Monaco in Nice on Monday as he looks to put an early wrap on the deal knowing they face competition from seemingly every European giant.

Shortly after signing his controversial new two-year deal, Wenger, 67, promised to spend big in order to make Arsenal Premier League title contenders once more.

He quickly secured the services of Nigerian hotshot Henry Onyekuru from KAS Eupen, and has now turned to Mbappe as the man to turn around the club’s fortunes.

It’s left to be seen if the player touted to be the new Thierry Henry will take a similar path to the France great and become a Gunner.
