Arsenal to Begin Season Without Star Man Alexis Sanchez
The 2016/17 Premier League season is already having a familiar feel for Arsenal as the club are already sweating on the fitness of star attacker Alexis Sanchez.
Sanchez, 27, picked up an ankle injury during Chile’s successful Copa America title defence and has been on the treatment table during his summer break.
Daily Mail reports that the Gunners seem resigned to be without the dynamic forward for blockbuster season opener against Liverpool on August 14.
Manager Arsene Wenger is already set to be without a host of top talents for the visit of Jurgen Klopp’s men following the exertions of Euro 2016, making the situation with Sanchez even more desperate.
Olivier Giroud, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey are not scheduled to meet up for pre-season training until August 8 – just seven days before the clash against the Reds, with star defender Laurent Koscielny joining up August 8.
With Danny Welbeck out injured and the likely absences of Sanchez and Giroud, Theo Walcott may well start as the senior striker on the opening day, unless, of course Wenger splashes the cash before then.
