Benue State SSG Collapses After Marathon Meeting

The Secretary to the Benue State government, Targema Tarkema, collapsed at his home in Makurdi on Friday after attending the state’s executive council meeting that was said to have lasted almost 24 hours.

The Punch reported that Tarkema who collapsed around 11 am was immediately  rushed to the state’s teaching hospital Makurdi and is responding to treatment.

According to the newspaper, an unnamed family member of Terkema revealed that the SSG had a brain tumour and that the prolonged meeting might have aggravated his condition.

 The Special Adviser to the state governor on Media and ICT,  Tarhav Agerzua,  confirmed that the SSG was receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, the paper said.
Vanguard is reporting that doctors at the hospital claimed that Mr Takerma suffered a serious stroke but was in stable condition.

THE Secretary to the Benue State Government, SSG, Mr. Targema Takema late Thursday night reportedly slumped and went into coma at his Makurdi residence.

Saturday Vanguard gathered from a close family source that Mr. Takema who was immediately rushed to the state owned University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH, was said to be suffering from cardiovascular disease.

“We were told by doctors that he suffered a serious stroke, but he is in stable health condition, we are hopeful that he would get stronger in the coming few days.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Terver Akase who confirmed the incident, said the Governor had already visited Mr.Takerma at the hospital.

“Yes it is true that the SSG slumped, but he was rushed to the hospital where he is in stable condition and also responding to treatment.”
