
Brig Gen HR Toro Assumes Command Of 18 Brigade/Sector 2 OPSS From Brig Gen IB Gambari
The handing and taking over ceremony between Brigadier General IB Gambari and Brigadier General HR Toro was conducted on 2 March 2026, at Headquarters 18 Brigade Nigerian Army, Litani Barracks, Bida.
Brigadier General IB Gambari formally relinquished command as he proceeds on posting to Headquarters 8 Division Nigerian Army as Chief of Staff. Taking over from him is Brigadier General HR Toro, who until his recent posting, served as Chief of Staff at Headquarters 8 Division Nigerian Army, Sokoto. The seamless transition once again underscores the Nigerian Army’s enduring tradition of professionalism and continuity in command.
In his separate farewell addresses to officers, soldiers and members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), Brigadier General Gambari expressed profound appreciation to unit commanders, staff officers and troops for their loyalty, cooperation and discipline throughout his tenure. He noted with satisfaction that cases of indiscipline were minimal, which he attributed to the troops’ strong military bearing and sense of responsibility. He however urged all personnel to sustain the high standards of discipline and professionalism, warning that acts of indiscipline have the potential to undermine the cohesion and operational effectiveness of the Brigade.
The outgoing Commander described his successor as a thoroughbred and highly regimented infantry officer, expressing confidence in his capacity to take the Brigade and Sector 2 OPSS to greater heights. He charged officers and soldiers of 18 Brigade, as well as those of 1 National Mission Force Brigade domiciled in Litani Barracks, to accord the new Commander the same level of support and cooperation extended to him to ensure seamless command and administration.
Addressing members of NAOWA and NASWA, Brigadier General Gambari appreciated their support and compliance with laid-down measures within the barracks. He assured them that the new Commander would give due attention to the prevailing water challenges in the barracks. At the barracks entrance gate, he once again thanked the troops for their dedication and professionalism, urging them to remain disciplined, committed and loyal in the discharge of their duties.
Highlights of the ceremony included the signing of the Handing and Taking Over Notes, farewell address to troops, symbolic presentation of the command flag to the incoming Commander and the lowering and hoisting of the old and new command flags at the Quarter Guard.
