Change Of Baton: Brigadier General Mukhtar Assumes Command Of 27 Task Force
In a colourful and highly regimented ceremony, Brigadier General Mukhtar S Mukhtar on Wednesday, 9 July 2026, officially took over the mantle of leadership of 27 Task Force Brigade, Nigerian Army, Buni Gari, Gujba LGA, Yobe State, from Brigadier General Usman Ahmad, thereby bringing his tenure to an end.
In his farewell address, Brigadier General Usman Ahmad expressed profound gratitude and appreciation to officers, soldiers, and other security agencies for their unwavering loyalty, dedication, and professionalism throughout his tenure. He commended the troops for their sacrifices and resilience in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities, which contributed immensely to the successes recorded during his tenure. He urged them to extend the same level of commitment and support to the incoming Commander. He also attributed the Brigade’s operational successes to the support of sister security agencies and other stakeholders whose collaboration and commitment were instrumental.
Speaking during the event, Brigadier General Mukhtar S Mukhtar thanked the Chief of Army Staff and the higher military authorities for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor by sustaining operational effectiveness, strengthening discipline, enhancing personnel welfare, and fostering teamwork in line with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu. He called on all officers and soldiers to remain focused, loyal, and committed to the Brigade’s mission.
The highly regimented Handing and Taking Over ceremony highlighted the formal change of command, signifying continuity in leadership and the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to professionalism and excellence in discharging its constitutional responsibilities of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians. It also underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustaining operational effectiveness, discipline, and mission accomplishment in the defence of Nigeria.
Highlights of the event included the change of command flag, quarter guard, signing of the Handing and Taking Over notes, presentation of souvenirs, commissioning of projects, tour of Brigade facilities, and group photographs.
