Chelsea have re-signed Brazil defender David Luiz from Paris St-Germain for a fee in the region of £34m.

David Luiz, 29, travelled to London for a medical in one of the big shocks of the transfer deadline day, as the Blues also confirmed the signing of left-back Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina for a reported £23m, BBC reports.

Luiz returns to Stamford Bridge on a three-year deal having first joined the Blues from Benfica for £21.3m in January 2011.

The maverick Brazilian defender made 143 appearances for Chelsea before former manager Jose Mourinho sanctioned his sale to French giants PSG for a reported £40m in 2014.

Luiz won the Champions League and FA Cup with Chelsea in 2012, as well as the Europa League a year later, while he claimed two Ligue 1 titles with PSG.

“We had a fantastic story during my first time at the club,” said Luiz.

Meanwhile, Alonso, 25, moves to the Premier League for the third time in his career as he teams up with Antonio Conte’s side.

“It’s time for me to win some titles. It’s a step up in my career,” said Alonso, who’s had spells at Bolton wanderers and Sunderland.

“My family and close friends know Chelsea is the club I have dreamed about playing for.

“I’m really excited about the challenge and I’m looking forward to working with my new team-mates.”

Chelsea winger Juan Cuadrado, also recruited from Fiorentina, has rejoined Juventus on a three-year loan deal.
