Chief Of Air Staff Honoured With Nigerian Institute Of Physics’ Award Of Excellence
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has been honoured with the Award of Excellence by the Nigerian Institute of Physics in recognition of his exemplary leadership qualities, professional accomplishments, and outstanding contributions to national security and technological advancement. The prestigious award was presented during the Institute’s 47th Annual Conference held at Lead City University under the theme, “Smart Physics: A New Perspective for Technological Advancement.” The event attracted distinguished physicists, researchers, academics, government officials, and industry stakeholders committed to advancing scientific innovation and national development.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President of the Nigerian Institute of Physics, Professor Joseph Coker, described the appointment of Air Marshal Aneke as the 23rd CAS as a well-deserved recognition of competence, professionalism, and intellectual depth. He noted that the CAS, a graduate of Physics from the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy, has consistently demonstrated the analytical and problem-solving principles associated with physics in confronting Nigeria’s security challenges. Professor Coker further commended the transformational leadership being provided by the CAS in the ongoing efforts to combat insecurity, while emphasizing the critical role of physics and technological innovation in driving national growth and development.
In his acceptance remarks delivered on his behalf by the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the CAS expressed profound appreciation to the Council of the Institute for the honour bestowed on him. He stated that the award reflected the enduring value of physics as a discipline that instils precision, logic, and the pursuit of truth in leadership and operational decision-making. According to the CAS, the Nigerian Air Force continues to leverage scientific principles, including aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and electromagnetism, in enhancing operational effectiveness and defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity. The conference also featured the conferment of Fellowships on deserving members of the Institute and a keynote address by Professor Uzodinma Chukwuma of Olabisi Onabanjo University.
