Chief Of Air Staff Presents Cheques Pioneer Beneficiaries Of GPAIP, Honours Young Officer For Exceptional Performance

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), on Monday 7 October 2024, took a major step towards enhancing personnel welfare by presenting cheques to the pioneer beneficiaries of the Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy (GPAIP), which was instituted by the NAF in January 2024. The GPAIP, provides compensation for bodily injuries, temporary or permanent disabilities, death, medical expenses, and salary reimbursement to the Next of Kin of deceased personnel. Speaking at the ceremony, Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar emphasized the importance of recognizing sacrifices made by NAF personnel, noting that GPAIP would provide comfort to families of deceased personnel and reassure serving personnel that the NAF prioritizes their welfare.

During the event, Air Marshal Abubakar also recognized Flying Officer David Oluwagbemiga Sangokoya’s exceptional achievement as the first African cadet to win the International Sword of Honour at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell, United Kingdom (UK). The CAS expressed appreciation to the UK Government for providing world-class training opportunities for NAF personnel, and to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) for laying the foundation which prepared Sangokoya to shine on the world stage. The CAS also reaffirmed the profound gratitude and unalloyed loyalty of the NAF to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to the welfare and capacity development of the NAF in particular and the Armed Forces of Nigeria as a whole.

The activation of the GPAIP and award for excellence to Flying Officer Sangokoya demonstrate the NAF’s commitment to recognizing hard work, sacrifice, and professionalism, and highlights the excellence within the force, proving that NAF officers and cadets can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best globally.
