Chief Of Air Staff Reinforces Logistics Readiness, Deepens Lagos Partnership, Commissions Welfare Projects
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has commenced a 3-day operational visit to Logistics Command, Lagos State, on 2 February 2026 to assess the readiness of personnel, equipment and critical facilities supporting ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations. The visit highlighted the decisive role of logistics in modern warfare, where sustained airpower projection depends on a resilient supply chain, maintenance efficiency and a highly motivated workforce. The CAS emphasised that operational success is inseparable from logistics strength, noting that the reach and tempo of NAF missions nationwide are anchored on a robust logistics architecture.
As part of the visit, the CAS paid a courtesy call on Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, reaffirming the enduring strategic partnership between the Nigerian Air Force and the Lagos State Government. Describing Lagos as pivotal to national air operations, the CAS stressed that the state hosts critical NAF establishments that sustain airpower projection across the country. Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated the state’s commitment to close cooperation with the Armed Forces, affirming that security remains fundamental to economic growth and social stability, while both leaders underscored the importance of joint security efforts under Operation MESA.
The CAS also commissioned major welfare and infrastructure projects at 055 NAF Camp, Legico Barracks, including new residential flats and a purpose-built sports complex, reaffirming that personnel welfare is a strategic pillar of operational readiness. He appreciated his predecessor, Air Marshal HB Abubakar (rtd), for initiating the project, noting that continuity in leadership commitment remains vital to institutional progress. Emphasising that improved housing reduces welfare pressures and enables personnel to focus fully on mission demands, the CAS commended the Federal Government for its sustained support. The visit, he stated, reflects a deliberate integration of logistics readiness, welfare investment and intergovernmental cooperation as a unified force multiplier, reinforcing the NAF’s commitment to remaining agile, resilient and mission-ready.
