Commandant Army War College Decorates First College Army Warrant Officer

The Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) has recorded a major milestone with the decoration of its Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM), Master Warrant Officer Usman Kinging, as the institution’s first-ever Army Warrant Officer (AWO). The historic event was conducted by the Commandant, Major General Umar Alkali.

Established on 28 February 2017, AWCN was conceived to close the gap between tactical and strategic military training by enhancing officers’ competence in operational art, design, campaign planning, strategic decision-making and foundational theories of war. The college remains committed to producing knowledgeable, well-trained and motivated operational-level leaders for the Nigerian Army.

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Alkali lauded the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Nigerian Army Medal, for approving the promotion slate that advanced both officers and soldiers of the college. He congratulated AWO Kinging on achieving this landmark elevation and encouraged him to remain steadfast and continue to justify the trust placed in him.

In his remarks, AWO Kinging who holds a Master of Science in Forensic Science and completed several professional military courses including the Drill Instructor Course, expressed deep appreciation to the COAS for finding him worthy of the prestigious rank of Army Warrant Officer. He further thanked the Commandant , Major General Alkali and all officers of the college for their continuous support and guidance.

The decoration represents a significant moment in AWCN’s history and reinforces the college’s enduring commitment to strengthening the Nigerian Army’s operational-level leadership.
