Commandant Army War College Nigeria Confers Fellows With Brooch On Senior Staff Officers

The Commandant, Army War College Nigeria (AWCN), Major General Umar Alkali, has decorated three senior members of the Directing Staff with the prestigious Fellows with Brooch award during a formal ceremony held at the College Conference Room on Wednesday 28 January 2026.

The honoured officers include Brigadier General OG Olayinka, Brigadier General Eyitay Shoda and Brigadier General Abubakar Sambo. They earned the distinction after successfully completing one year of service at the college and fulfilling the requisite minimum of two academic teaching terms.

While presenting the awards, Major General Alkali charged the recipients to regard the honour as a renewed call to higher responsibility and dedicated service to the Army War College Nigeria and the Nigerian Army at large.

He commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM, for his sustained support and strategic guidance to the institution and encouraged the awardees to continue contributing meaningfully to the advancement of the college.

The Fellows with Brooch award, symbolised by a military dagger, represents elite professional standing and recognises officers who have demonstrated excellence in instruction, leadership and commitment to rigorous military scholarship. The honour entitles recipients to the use of the appellation Fellow Army War College (FWC+) or Fellow Army War College.

The awardees were also presented with certificates, while the ceremony was witnessed by directors of the college and members of the Directing Staff.
