Commander 6 Brigade Host NIPSS Participants, Calls For Support Of Critical Stakeholders

The Commander, 63 Brigade/Sector 1, Joint Task Force (JTF), South South (SS), Operation DELTA SAFE (OPDS), Brigadier General Moronfolu Shonibare has called for increased support from the populace and critical stakeholders to effectively address the security challenges bedeviling the SS region. He made the call, when he hosted the participants of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), who were on study tour at the Brigade’s Headquarters in Asaba, Delta State, today 14 July 2025.

Brigadier General Shonibare emphasized the need for community-led initiatives and inter-agency collaboration in promoting peace and stability in the region. He highlighted the security challenges peculiar to the operating environment, which he said included militancy, pipeline vandalism, cultism, and communal clashes.

He maintained that inspite of these challenges, the JTF OPDS has recorded significant successes, including the reduction of pipeline vandalism, apprehension caused by notorious cultists and militants. He attributed these successes to the bravery and dedication of the troops in the Brigade.

Earlier, the team leader from the NIPSS, Deputy Inspector General of Police (rtd) Adeleye Oyebade said the commander has provided the team with very informative and insightful perspective on the ongoing operations in the region. He noted that the information provided valuable insights into the security challenges facing the region and the efforts being made to address them. He added that the brief they received was part of the NIPSS’s program to educate participants on security issues and policy development.
