Commander Corps Of Engineers Visit 6 Division, Reiterates Critical Role Of Engineers

The Commander, Corps of Engineers (CCE), Major General Shamsideen Toyin Shafaru, has reiterated the critical role of the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers (NAE) in providing combat engineering support, infrastructural development, and maintenance across formations of the Nigerian Army (NA). The CCE made this known when he was received by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, NA, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, at the Headquarters of 6 Division, Port Harcourt Barracks, on 19 February 2026.

Speaking further, the CCE emphasized that the visit was part of his determination to engage directly with field commanders, understand prevailing challenges, and explore ways to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the NAE in support of operational objectives. He maintained that the visit to the GOC was customary before proceeding to the Engineer Brigade and Regiments under 6 Division. He noted that this was important to enable him familiarize himself with formations and units, having assumed command as the 32nd CCE.

He commended the GOC for the leadership he has been providing and the significant operational strides recorded under his watch. The CCE reassured the GOC of the NAE’s continued support in providing quality engineering services in line with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu’s command philosophy.

Earlier, the GOC, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, while welcoming the CCE, said the NAE remains pivotal to operational and infrastructural successes in the NA. He added that the CCE is a seasoned professional and accomplished builder who has distinguished himself. He congratulated him on his well-deserved and meritorious appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to reposition the Corps for enhanced efficiency, particularly in quality construction and service delivery.

The GOC recalled that they have come a long way, adding that their professional relationship dates back over three decades. He also reminisced about the quality time they spent as members of Faculty at the Army War College Nigeria, where they both contributed meaningfully to the training and mentoring of officers for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
