Commander Infantry Corps Fosters Synergy With Key Training Institutions In Kaduna

The Commander Infantry Corps (CIC), Major General GM Mutkut, has concluded a series of strategic familiarisation visits to two critical institutions in the Nigerian Armed Forces training architecture: the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), and the Air Training Command (ATC) on 2 December 2025 in Kaduna.

The visits underscore the emphasis placed by the Nigerian Army on deepening inter-service cooperation and ensuring that future leaders across the Army and Air Force are seamlessly integrated for contemporary joint operations. ​Enhancing Officer Cadet Training at NDA.

Major General Mutkut, who recently assumed command as the 59th Commander Infantry Corps, was received at the NDA by the Commandant, Major General OT Olatoye.

During their meeting, the CIC commended the Commandant for the recent progress in enhancing cadet regimentation, infrastructure, and the overall quality of officer production. Discussions centered on aligning the NDA’s curriculum with the evolving tactical and technological requirements of the Infantry Corps, the elite fighting force of the Nigerian Army. ​Major General Mutkut stressed the importance of laying a solid foundation in joint operations awareness right from the cadet level.

Major General Olatoye affirmed the NDA’s commitment to collaborating closely with all Services, ensuring that graduating officer cadets possess the moral, mental, and operational resilience required to confront modern security challenges.

Major General Mutkut proceeded to the Headquarters of the Air Training Command (ATC) where he was hosted by the Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Air Vice Marshal AY Dari. The CIC acknowledged the crucial role of the ATC in providing tactical air support and reconnaissance, which are indispensable to the success of ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-banditry operations involving infantry formations.

The discussions with the AOC focused on reviewing established protocols for ground-to-air communication, improving interoperability in joint exercises, and integrating advanced tactical training for forward air controllers within the infantry structure. AVM Dari assured the CIC of the ATC’s continuous support in optimizing air assets utilization to enhance the effectiveness and combat efficiency of ground troops.

The CIC noted that such high-level exchanges are vital for fostering mutual understanding, respect, and seamless synergy between the Services, which remain the bedrock of success in the Armed Forces’ commitment to safeguarding national security.
