Commissioning Ceremony Of The Chief Of The Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project In Akwa Ibom State
On Thursday, 26 June 2025, a Principal’s and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Members’s Lodge at Community Secondary School, Ibedu-Idikpa, Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, were commissioned. The project comprises a 1 x 2 bedroom apartment, 4 x 1 bedroom apartments, and an 800-litre capacity overhead tank.
The commissioning was carried out under the auspices of the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project (CNS-QIP). The CNS-QIP was initiated by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, to implement projects aimed at enhancing the Nigerian Navy’s (NN) Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) efforts nationwide. This particular project was facilitated by Rear Admiral Joseph Daniel Akpan as a way of giving back to his roots and improving the lives of people in the community.
In his remarks, the CNS, who was represented by the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Saheed Adesina Akinwande, reiterated the significance of CIMIC, highlighting it as a key principle consistently emphasized by the CNS in strengthening military-community relations. CIMIC includes activities and interactions between the military and civil society geared towards the accomplishment of military missions and strategic objectives. Accordingly, the CNS launched the Special Quick Impact Project to support the renewed CIMIC mandate of the Nigerian Navy and to contribute to the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He further noted that these projects serve not only to honour distinguished senior officers of the Navy but also demonstrate the Navy’s broader commitment to serving Nigerians beyond its core mandate of securing lives and property.
Also speaking at the event, Rear Admiral Akpan expressed profound appreciation to the CNS for the invaluable opportunity to execute such a meaningful project. He described it as a testament to the CNS’s visionary leadership and commitment to community development, with the Ibedu-Idikpa community being a major beneficiary. He emphasized that the project would significantly alleviate the accommodation challenges faced by Corps members in the area.
