Comptroller Jaiyeoba Takes over from ACG Auwal Mohammed as Apapa Customs Area Controller
The Newly elevated Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, ACG Auwal Mohammed, has handed over the baton of leadership of Apapa Customs Area Command to Comptroller Babajide Jaiyeoba.
ACG Mohammed, while handing over to his successor on 12 September 2023, urged officers of the command to rededicate themselves to service and surpass government expectations of them for revenue collection, prevention of smuggling and trade facilitation.
He applauded them for the feats they achieved together when he was the Area Controller at the command.
According to the ACG, “A few months ago, I solicited your assistance for my success as the Area Controller. Today, I am happy to say that you all gave me your support to ensure the securing of our port and seamless clearance operations.
“With the collaboration of sister agencies, we have ensured revenues are collected properly and illicit goods importation is reduced to minimal.
“As part of our revenue generation effort, N136 billion was generated in August. This is the first time any command can generate such an amount in a month. Also, from January to August, the command generated N676 billion to the federal government coffers. This is the first time an area command could generate more than 10.09 billion naira in a day. And we achieved this on 3rd August 2023.’’
He further stated that the command recorded notable seizures through intelligence sharing.
“Also, it is through intelligence sharing, Apapa port command was able to intercept over 700 cartons of tramadol.
“Our meticulous operatives were able to discover pistols at one of our terminals. This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without total loyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I say thank you to all our sister agencies for their continuous collaboration and I hope the same will be extended to the incoming Area Controller.” he stated.
The new Area Controller, Comptroller Jaiyeoba thanked his predecessor, while stating that there is much work to be done and he is ready to give his best to the service.
“Apapa command target is N1.4 trillion and we have only achieved N675 billion. I know we can achieve the expected target if we adopt the right work approach.
“My doors are always open to constructive contribution, so you can approach me for any support that will ensure the success of our operation,” he added.
He solicited the cooperation of officers and port users to sustain the impressive revenue records achieved by the Command.
