The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adamawa/Taraba Area Command, has recorded a smooth leadership transition following the redeployment of senior officers within the Service.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Naomi Titus, the formal handing over and taking over ceremony took place on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, at the Customs House, Yola. At the event, the outgoing Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Garba Bashir, officially handed over the mantle of leadership to the new Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Tako, in the presence of senior officers and heads of units.
The statement noted that the transition, conducted in line with established customs administrative procedures, underscores the Service’s commitment to continuity, efficiency, and effective service delivery across the Adamawa and Taraba operational areas.
In his farewell remarks, Comptroller Garba Bashir thanked God Almighty and then the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for the opportunity to serve. He described his tenure as rewarding, attributing the achievements recorded to teamwork, professionalism, and the support of officers and key stakeholders.
“I appreciate the dedication and cooperation of officers and men of this Command. I urge you to extend the same support to my successor to enable him succeed,” Bashir said, while also seeking forgiveness from anyone he may have offended in the course of his duties.
In his remarks, Comptroller Mohammed Tako expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi for the confidence reposed in him. He commended his predecessor for laying a solid foundation.
“It is an honour to build on the achievements of this Command. I assure you of an open-door policy and collective leadership geared towards improved service delivery,” Tako stated.
He outlined a six-point agenda focused on strengthening anti-smuggling operations, enhancing collaboration, engaging border communities, promoting transparency and professionalism, improving revenue generation, and prioritising officers’ welfare and motivation. He further charged officers to remain disciplined, diligent, and committed to the core values of the Service.
