Comptroller Nnadi Takes Over Tincan Island Command as Comptroller Oloyede Proceeds to Headquarters

Comptroller Dera Nnadi, on Thursday, 14 September 2023, officially assumed duty as Customs Area Controller in charge of the Tin Can Island Port Command, Lagos. This transition marked Comptroller Olakunle Oloyede’s departure from his role as he moved on to oversee Import and Export operations at the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters, Abuja.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, the outgoing Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Olakunle Oloyede, urged officers and stakeholders to ensure continuous collaboration with the new Customs Area Controller while describing him as one of their own.

He said, “During my time, we recorded numerous seizures, and this was possible with the intels our stakeholders provided us.”

“9 officers from Tin Can Command were given commendation letters, which means we are doing a good job. I expect you to extend similar cooperation to the incoming Area Controller.”

“He is one of our own and not one who’s coming to test the waters. This is a water he knows about, and he has knowledge on how to filter it to become a portable one,” he added.

The incoming Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, who also served as an Officer at the Command, stated that the dynamism of the Nigeria Customs Service requires working together to achieve a common goal.

“The Command’s revenue target of over N801 billion currently stands at 52 percent with barely three months to the end of the year. It means that all of us here owe the country a responsibility to collect the balance of 48 percent. This is a big but achievable task”.

Nnadi also commended the outgoing Customs Area Controller for the recent seizure of Tramadol while also promising to run an open-door policy with everyone except fraudulent importers whose desire is to sabotage the economy.

The Vice President of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Hon. Princess Chi Ezeh, appealed to the incoming Customs Area Controller to continue on the already existing relationship between Customs and licensed Agents to ensure facilitation of trade.
