Cristiano Ronaldo is having a European championship to forget thus far: Euro 2016 has by no means gone according to script for the Real Madrid superstar.

Having failed to find the back of the net in two games, the Portugal captain has not been himself lately and he reacted angrily after being approached by a television reporter while out walking near the team’s hotel in Lyon – grabbing the microphone and throwing it into a lake.

Ronaldo, 31, has been under mounting media pressure after his penalty miss against Austria and an unguarded outburst against Iceland’s “small mentality”. He flipped Wednesday morning after being asked by the CMTV reporter if he was ready for their game against Hungary.

Watch the video below:

Portugal are without a win so far at Euro 2016, and have scored just once from 18 shots on target, making their tie against Hungary a must win if they are to remain in the tournament.

The three-time ballon d’Or winner, however, has the backing of coach Fernando Santos, who dismissed reporters’ queries about his star player’s state of mind. According to Guardian.

“After the first match your stories were that Cristiano was all smiles and now it is that he’s not smiling. I am sure he will get over everything and do what he does best. He’s always proved that what he does best is score and I’m sure he will do everything to be anxiety free to score,” Santos said.

Ronaldo has not scored in 36 free-kick attempts at major tournaments but Santos said: “He will carry on taking free-kicks and penalties. We have someone who is the standard-bearer for our country, and we do love him. The Portuguese love Cristiano.”

That love will surely be tested with an early exit at Euro 2016, but as Ronaldo has always told his countrymen when queried in the past: “Check my CV!”

Apparently, he has all the answers.
