Customs Awards Exceptional Officers in Apapa, Urges Continued Commitment to Duty

…As Junior Course 19 Officers Conclude Operational Study Tour

The Nigeria Customs Service has awarded four deserving officers at the Apapa Command for the exceptional discharge of their duties and commitment.

The Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs (ACG) and Zonal Coordinator, Zone ‘A’, ACG Saidu Yusuf, was represented by Customs Area Controller, Apapa Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, on Friday, 26 July 2024, at the Command headquarters in Lagos presents the commendation letters to the four outstanding officers.

The ACG stated that their contributions have been exemplary, stressing that Deputy Comptroller (DC) Salamatu Atuluku, the Scanner Manager, and others were notably recognised for their exceptional performance.

“DC Atuluku’s contributions have been exemplary, with her unit achieving the highest number of significant interventions,” the ACG reiterated.

He urged them to remain committed to duty and never relent from what they are known for, as a golden fish has no hiding place.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the awardees, DC Atuluku emphasised the importance of transparency in customs operations.

“This recognition is a tremendous boost to our morale. My advice to stakeholders is always to declare consignments honestly. Transparency is crucial for effective revenue generation and customs operations,” she added.

Earlier, officers of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC) Gwagwalada, Junior Course 19, who have been on an operational study tour in Lagos, concluded their course with a visit to the Apapa Area Command.

The visit gave the officers a comprehensive understanding of the Command’s role in export regulation compliance.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, praised the successful completion of the tour and expressed confidence in the officers’ readiness. “I do not doubt that the objectives of this course have been met. Your presence here confirms that the purpose behind the training has been achieved.”

“It reflects the dedication of the commandant and lecturers to your transformation. The investment from management is clearly paying off. You should embody both character and knowledge, and I am thoroughly impressed.”

The tour’s Chief Instructor and team leader, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Faruk Abubakar, explained that the tour’s purpose was to provide first-hand information and deepen understanding of the NCS’ operational frameworks.

He also highlighted stakeholders’ contributions, who shared valuable insights into industry challenges.

Participants described the experience as profoundly transformative.

Recall that the study tour kicked off on Monday, 22 July 2024, with the theme: ‘The Role of Nigeria Customs Service in Ensuring Compliance with Export Regulations’.
