Customs, Fire Service, Collaborate to Enhance Safety Measures & Security

The Nigeria Customs Service has strengthened ties with the Federal Fire Service to forge stronger inter-agency collaboration to enhance safety measures while protecting lives and property from fire incidents in Lagos State.

While receiving the Zonal Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Achi Ijeoma at the Customs Training College, Ikeja, Lagos, on Tuesday, 13 August 2024, the Commandant, Deputy Comptroller Haniel Hadison, explained the significance of collaboration among government agencies, particularly in improving economic stability.

“The essence of your visit aligns with the Comptroller-General of Customs’ leadership vision, emphasising collaboration. There is no better time than now for government agencies to unite, share ideas, and contribute to national interests.” He stated.

Hadison acknowledged the benefits the college had previously received from the Federal Fire Service, particularly in safety training for cadets and officers, and expressed enthusiasm for continuing this relationship.

He said, “We are eager to engage your department in future training exercises because the knowledge and experience you bring are invaluable to our mission of building the capacity and competency of our personnel.”

The Zonal Controller of the Federal Fire Service, ACG Achi Ijeoma, sought collaboration and mutual support between the two government agencies.

She emphasised the importance of inter-agency cooperation, highlighting the shared responsibilities of both the Fire Service and the NCS in ensuring the safety and security of Nigerian citizens.

Her words, “Coming here today feels like coming home. Our job demands cooperation from other agencies. Without it, we are at a loss. This visit strengthens the synergy, ensuring that the bond of unity and collaboration continues. “

“We are here today to familiarise ourselves with the training school. In whatever way you need us, we are available. Our work extends beyond firefighting to include other emergency duties. We want to ensure that whenever you see us, whether on the road or elsewhere, you know we are here to serve,” she emphasised.

ACG Ijeoma further stressed the Federal Fire Service’s commitment to its core mandate of saving lives and property.
