Demi Lovato Slammed with $150,000 Lawsuit Over Alleged Song Theft

Former Disney star, Demi Lovato, is back to making headlines again for all the wrong reasons.

According to reports, the 24-year-old singer is being sued by indie-pop duo Sleigh Bells for ripping off samples from their original song Infinity Guitars and using them in her 2015 hit Stars. The pop duo filed the lawsuit in a California federal court yesterday and are demanding that Lovato pay $150,000 for each infringement she committed.

The band is also accusing Lovato and Universal Music for making substantial profits through sales of digital downloads, licensing and other record sales. They further claim the copyright infringement has caused them lost profits, lost opportunities and loss of goodwill.

2016 has, so far, been a drama-filled year for Demi Lovato.

In June, the Stone Cold singer quit social media following a massive backlash from Mariah Carey’s fans over a meme that compared Carey and singer Ariana Grande. Then days ago, she came under fire once more for joking about the Zika virus.

Demi Lovato and her team have yet to comment on the lawsuit.
