
Depot Nigerian Army Osogbo Strengthens Recruits’ Combat Readiness Through Inter-Company Obstacle Crossing Competition
Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, Osun State, has conducted an Inter-Company Obstacle Crossing Competition for recruits of the 89 Regular Intake at the Depot’s Obstacle Ground on Saturday, 8 November 2025. The event, a vital component of the recruits’ training curriculum, was designed to enhance teamwork, resilience, and the ability to overcome physical and mental challenges under pressure.
The competition, flagged off by the Commandant Depot Nigerian Army Osogbo, Brigadier General Buhari Madaki, tested the recruits’ endurance, agility, and determination as they negotiated a series of demanding obstacles. The exercise simulated real-life combat conditions, aimed at instilling courage, quick thinking, and unity in the face of adversity.
Speaking during the event, Brigadier General Buhari Madaki commended the recruits for their grit and enthusiasm, as well as the officers and instructors for their commitment to duty. He stated: “This competition is a crucial part of your training, preparing you for the rigors of combat and the challenges of life as soldiers. You must continue to imbibe the spirit of teamwork, courage, and resilience which are the hallmark of a professional soldier.”
The Commandant further reiterated that the Depot remains steadfast in its mission to produce well-trained, disciplined, and combat-ready soldiers who are physically fit, mentally tough, and ready to serve the nation with honor and distinction.
At the end of the keenly contested exercise, Charlie Training Company emerged overall champion, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and discipline throughout the course. Delta Training Company took the wooden spoon position, while medals and recognitions were presented to individual recruits who distinguished themselves with outstanding performances.
The event concluded with cheers and camaraderie among recruits and staff, reinforcing the strong esprit de corps that continues to define the Nigerian Army’s regimental training culture.
