‘Dozens’ of Worshipers Killed in Ozubulu Church by Gunmen (VIDEOS)
Dozens of worshipers at a Catholic church in Ozubulu, Anambra state, were reportedly killed by gunmen who stormed the church during Mass today.
Witnesses of the attack say that there was no indication that an attack was coming and St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Ugwu Oye in Ozubulu, Anambra State, is not sited on a disputed land, the most common source of conflict in that part of Nigeria.
The church, consecrated about two years ago by the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi, Most Rev Dr Odili Okeke, is said to have been solely financed by Chief Nnamdi Ikegwounwu.
The assailants reportedly fled the scene in an SUV after the killings.
Bodies of the unfortunate victims were taken to nearby Ozubulu Joint Hospital mortuary.
Online reporting suggests the incident may be tied to a conflict involving an overseas based drug mafia.
The number of wounded and dead is not known at the moment as information is still very sketchy.
