Drunk Policeman Shoots Dead a Ghanaian Man in Anambra

An officer of the Anambra State Police Command has reportedly shot dead a Ghanaian man in the state capital, Awka.

According to Punch, the sad incident occurred yesterday at the Aroma area of the capital when the officer, identified as Prapra, began to shoot sporadically. The Ghanaian, Andem, an electrician, caught a bullet in the neck and was rushed to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital in Awka by sympathisers.

Doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

Speaking with the press, an eyewitness narrated how it all played out, stating that Prapra started shooting without provocation.

The policeman shoots sporadically with his service pistol each time he visits the area,” the source said. “He is a drunk and each time he is inebriated, he behaves abnormally.”

“He has been terrorising us. Everybody knows him around here because of his erratic behaviour,” the eyewitness added.

The incident has sparked worry in the area, but when contacted for comments, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nkeiruka Nwode, said the command was not aware of the murder.

Are you sure that the shooter is a policeman?” She asked the press.

The police is yet to make a statement.
