EFCC Arrests Iyiola Omisore over N1.3bn Fraud; N2.5bn Traced to Stella Oduah’s ‘Housemaid’s’ Account
A former deputy governor of Osun state and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the 2014 Osun gubernatorial elections, Senator Iyiola Omisore was on Sunday arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to online newspaper, Sahara Reporters, the former senator was picked up by men of the anti-graft agency at his Abuja residence and taken to the agency headquarters in Abuja.
Sources within the EFCC hint that Omisore is being quizzed about his alleged role in the diversion of the sum of N1.3billion from the coffers of the office of the national security adviser, while Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) occupied the position, to campaign funding for the Ekiti governorship election in 2014.
Omisore allegedly received the said sum from the ex-NSA and conveyed same to the Ekiti PDP governorship candidate, now Governor Ayodele Fayose.
Last May, the EFCC declared Omisore wanted in connection with similar diversion of N700m from the office of the NSA, being public funds, for his own governorship campaign in the same year.
Meanwhile, earlier in day, reports indicated that the anti-graft agency has traced the sum of N2.5billion to the account of a housemaid of a former ex-minister.
According to Sahara Reporters, EFCC sources revealed the identity of the former minister to be Mrs Stella Oduah, a former aviation minister under the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and now a senator representing Anambra state at the national assembly.
“Senator Oduah apparently opened the account with her housemaid’s name, image, and details without the housemaid knowing about it,” the EFCC source is quoted to have said.
