EFCC Hosts Strategic Management Training for Commonwealth Africa Anti-graft Agencies

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in conjunction with the Commonwealth Africa Anti-Corruption Centre (CAACC), will next week, host a five-day workshop on “Strategic Management of Anti-Corruption Agencies.”

The event which will take place in EFCC Academy, Karu, Abuja, will run from August 19 to 23, 2019. The workshop which follows EFCC’s agreement with the Botswana-based CCAAC to host and co-facilitate one of the six trainings of the body in 2019 will avail African anti-corruption agencies and particularly those of the 19-member country organisation the opportunity to gain from EFCC’s wealth of experience in anti-corruption fight.

All anti-corruption agencies in the country will also feature in the workshop, which will kick off with a presentation on: “Strategic thinking: Ensuring Relevance of Organisational Strategy and Strategic Planning and Management,” to be delivered by Prof. Pat Utomi, Founder, Centre for Value in Leadership. This will be followed by a presentation on “Understanding the Elements of Effective Anti-corruption Strategy,” by Dr Roger Koranteng, Policy Advisor, Commonwealth Secretariat.

On Tuesday, August 20, Dr Ada Chidi-Igbokwe, United Nations Consultant on Anti-corruption will deliver a talk on: “PESTLE and SWOT Analysis: Understanding how your Agencies’ Competencies and Shortcomings Translate into Strategic Strengths and Weakness,” as well as “Understanding Key Strategic Issues on Formulating Organisational Values, Goals and Objectives.”

On Wednesday, August 21, Professor Ladi Hamalai (Mni, MFR), Commandant, EFCC Academy and former Director-General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), will discuss on “Anti-Corruption Strategy and Achieving Sustainable Development Goals,” while Rasheedat Okoduwa, spokesperson, ICPC will speak on “The Role of Effective Communication in the Fight Against Corruption.”More presentations will be made on the day by Dr. Chidi-Igbokwe and Dr. Koranteng.

Olanipekun Olukoyede, Secretary to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC will on the fourth day, Thursday, August 22, deliver paper on “Non-conviction-based Asset Forfeiture: The Nigerian Experience,” while the EFCC Polygraph Unit will provide insights into the use of polygraph technology in lie detection in criminal investigation. Additionally, the Commission’s Department of Forensic Technology will make a presentation on “The Role of Forensics in the Fight Against Corruption.”

Also from the EFCC is Dr. Aminu Gusau, (Mni), the Commission’s Director of Organisational Support, who will speak on “Role of Emotional Intelligence in Performance Management.”
