EFCC Secures Warrant to Detain Fani-Kayode

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured a remand warrant to further detain the spokesman for the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, Vanguard reports.

Fani-Kayode had on Monday honoured an invitation by the anti-graft agency over allegations of diversion of funds and conspiracy to defraud the public to the tune of N840 million as part of the N4 billion loot during the heat of the last year’s presidential election.

The former aviation minister had his Abuja residence surrounded by EFCC operatives last Friday over fears he could abscond. But having assured of his readiness to face his accusers through his lawyer, Chief Fani-Kayode turned up at the EFCC headquarters yesterday at about 10:00am.

The remand warrant which was secured today will enable the anti-graft agency keep the former minister beyond the stipulated time allowed by law, as they are wont to do lately.

However, officials of the EFCC claim the move is to enable the operatives conduct proper investigation into how he got the money, what the fund was used for and who the beneficiaries were.
