Final Year Student Shot in the Head by Cultists in Enugu

In a dreadful renewal of campus cultism in Enugu State, southeast Nigeria, a final year student of the Department of Political Science in one of the South-Eastern universities, a certain Joseph Emmanuel, was reportedly murdered by suspected cultists at his off campus residence.

The unfortunate victim was understood to be in the company of his friends when about three suspected cultists, armed to the teeth with guns and machetes, paid him an unexpected visit at his home.

Eyewitnesses say he was severely beaten and riddled with machete cuts before the cultists ended his life with two bullets to the head. He was later confirmed dead at the Bishop Shanahan Hospital in Nsukka.

A friend of the deceased, who spoke on condition of anonymity to Vanguard, described the incident as unfortunate.

“It is quite sad. I have known him for quite some time now. In fact, he was the one that even introduced me to MMM. I do not know what could have led to this,” he said.

He, however, added that the deceased was a sociable character who lived a lavish lifestyle.

Meanwhile, another resident in the area, identified simply as Mark, linked the murder to a retaliatory attack by rival cultists.

“Last Sunday, they shot somebody at that gate over there (pointing). This may be a revenge mission,” he said.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Command, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said investigations are ongoing along with a manhunt for the suspects.
