Former Taraba Governor Danbaba Suntai is dead

According to online news website, SaharaReporters, Suntai passed away at his home while undergoing rehabilitation for brain injuries he sustained from a plane crash in 2012. He was 51 years old.

A former commissioner of information in the state, Emmanuel Bello confirmed the news of his demise to SaharaReporters, and promised to provide further details later.

Suntai never fully recovered from the plane crash that involved a private Cessna 208 aircraft marked 5N-BMJ in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

He succeeded Jolly Nyame as governor of the troubled north eastern state in 2007 and was reelected in 2011, although he served the remaining three years of his second tenure convalescing from his injuries.

This comes as a further blow to the state that has witnessed a succession of violent clashes between migrant Fulanis and local tribes in recent months. Only a few days ago we reported Vice President Osinbajo’s response and deployment of troops to stem the persistent violence in the state

We wish his family the fortitude to bear the grief of this great loss.

We’ll provide more details as they unfold….
