Game of Thrones Producer is Making Nnedi Okorafor’s Book Into a TV Series
Nnedi Okorafor has announced that George R. R. Martin is executive-producing the TV series of her award-winning novel, Who Fears Death.
For those who don’t know who the famous producer is: George R. R. Martin is the author of best-selling series of fantasy books Game of Thrones, which was adapted into the famous TV series, .
And now, the influential writer/producer is sitting at the helm of the new series to be adapted from Okorafor’s fantasy novel which will be brought to the screen by HBO.
Who Fears Death follows Onyesonwu’s journey, the powerful girl whose mother survived rape and the annihilation of their village.
Writing on her Facebook, Nnedi Okorafor revealed that the process of optioning the book took four years.
“I’m finally free to announce this: My World Fantasy Award winning novel WHO FEARS DEATH has been optioned by HBO and is now in early development as a TV series with George R. R. Martin as executive producer,” she said, adding, “Note: This did not happen overnight. It’s been nearly 4 years coming.”
And in conversation with a fan, Okorafor added that she will be overseeing the adaptation of the book. “I am very Involved. I also know George well (we met in 2014 and I stayed in touch); he’s been a sort of mentor to me through all this. And all those involved know what this story is; Onyesonwu is in good good hands.”
This is a huge feat for the prolific writer Nnedi Okafor who continues to dominate our spheres and beyond, with titles that are packed with our Nigerian heritage, including the novella Binti which won both the 2016 Nebula Award and 2016 Hugo Award.
