GOC 2 Division Visits Nigerian Army Engineer Construction Command, Other Units and Formations

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Obinna Onubogu, was at NA Engineer Construction Command (ECC), Ede, Osun State, on Thursday 28 March 2024, for a familiarisation visit. The visit was in line with his routine requirement on assumption of duty as GOC 2 Division.

Major General Onubogu, accompanied by some commanders and staff officers of the Division, were received by the Commander, ECC, Brigadier General Aliyu Abdulkarim, in his office. Accordingly, the Commander, ECC, briefed the GOC on the general activities of the command, which centered on overview of ECC Area of Responsibility (AOR), general security situation in Osun State, operations, training, admistrative and logistics matters. Others include; the command’s achievements as well as challenges. Amongst several pressing issues, he emphasized on the need to establish NA operations in the state to forestall possible emerging and estimated threats.

Brigadier General Abdulkarim, further took the GOC on a tour of the command, briefing him on several ongoing new projects and those being remodeled. The projects include; new 30 Corporals and Bellow Quarters (CBQ), remodeling of the Catholic Church, Quarter Master office, transit accommodation and Corpers Lodge. The GOC, also visited the construction site for NA Infantry Battalion Barracks at Oshogbo Ibodi – Ilesha, Ogun State. The Commander, ECC, equally led the GOC to Ilobu community, at Irekpodun LGA of Osun State, where he inspected the ongoing construction of a medical facility which is part of Chief of Army Staff’s intervention projects.

The GOC continued his familiarisation visit at Command Day Secondary School (CDSS), Ede, where he was presented with Quarter Guard by students of the school. He interacted with students of various grades, while admonishing them to take their studies seriously in order to achieve their desired goals in life.

The members of Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) and Nigerian Army Soldiers Wives Association (NASWA), also got their fair share of the GOC’s time; during which they expressed some of their concerns and challenges to him. Both Associations received support from the GOC.

Speaking at the various phases of his visit, the GOC commended the Commander ECC for the ongoing works so far, and encouraged him to ensure high quality and good standard of work is sustained. He addressed troops of the command, commending them for their individual and collective contributions towards the successes achieved by the command and the NA in general. He urged them to keep the good work and remain worthy ambassadors of the NA and the nation at large.

Earlier on 26 and 27 March 2024, the GOC, visited units and formations within the Division complex and was adequately briefed. He continued his familiarisation visit at 42 Engineer Brigade, 520 and 525 Signal Regiments, through 1020 Division Workshop, 2 Base Ordnance Depot and 2 Division Tailoring Factory; all at Letmuack Barracks, Mokola, Ibadan. The respective Commanders and Commanding Officers (COs), briefed the GOC accordingly. The familiarisation visits will continue subsequently at other units and formations within 2 Division AOR.
