GOC 6 Division Hosts Students of Phronesis International School on a Career Visit
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force (South- South) Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Everest Okoro, has encouraged students of Phronesis International School, Port Harcourt, to remain disciplined, uphold integrity and consider the Nigerian Army as a viable career option. The GOC gave the charge when he received the staff and students during a career visit to Headquarters 6 Division on 6 October, 2026. He described the visit as a valuable opportunity for the students to gain first-hand knowledge of the Nigerian Army, its activities and the career opportunities available within the Service.
Major General Okoro stressed that exposing young people to the military environment could help them better understand the profession and encourage them to consider joining the Nigerian Army in the future. He urged the students to remain disciplined and avoid social vices, emphasising that discipline and integrity are fundamental values required for success, particularly in the military profession. The GOC further expressed optimism that the visit would have a lasting impact on the students, noting that within the next ten years, some of those seated in the auditorium could return to Phronesis International School as military personnel to deliver similar career lectures to another generation of students.
As part of the visit, the students were taken on a tour of the Quarter Guard, where they witnessed a demonstration of Quarter Guard Drills and were introduced to the Division’s Mascot, the Python. The activities provided the students with practical exposure to military traditions, discipline and the professional environment of the Nigerian Army. Delivering the vote of thanks, the Director of Phronesis International School, Mr Ogbonnaya Udeala, expressed appreciation to the GOC for the warm reception accorded to the students and school representatives. He described the decision to choose Headquarters 6 Division for the school’s career visit as a significant one, stating that the experience had helped correct some misconceptions about the military and given the students a better understanding of the profession.
Highlights of the visit included; enlightenment lecture on Career Prospect in the Nigerian Army, interactive session, Quarter Guard drills, introduction to the Division’s Mascot, presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph.
