GOC Reaffirms 82 Division’s Commitment To Troops Welfare, Commissions New Accommodation Facilities

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Oluremi Abayomi Fadairo, has reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of its personnel with the commissioning of newly constructed accommodation facilities at Abakpa Military Cantonment, Enugu.

The facilities, which comprise 30-family Corporal and Below Quarters and the Engineer Brigade Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) Prototype Model House, were commissioned by the GOC on 26 August 2026, as part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to provide decent, functional and conducive accommodation for its personnel.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Major General Fadairo described the projects as a significant milestone in the Army’s continuous drive to improve the living conditions of troops. He commended the Army Headquarters for prioritising infrastructure development and welfare initiatives, noting that the provision of adequate accommodation was a clear demonstration of the Chief of Army Staff’s commitment to putting the welfare of soldiers at the forefront of command responsibilities.

The GOC thanked the COAS for his magnanimity towards ensuring personnel of the Nigerian Army and their family members lives with dignity while serving their fatherland. He also appreciated the COAS for his regular guidance and interventions in the operational and administrative activities of the Division.

The GOC further emphasised that troop welfare remains an essential component of effective military leadership, stressing that personnel who are adequately catered for are better positioned to remain focused, motivated and committed to the successful discharge of their constitutional responsibilities. He added that the provision of quality accommodation would not only enhance the living conditions of beneficiaries but would also contribute to improved morale and operational effectiveness.

Major General Fadairo disclosed that the newly commissioned Corporal and Below Quarters would accommodate personnel of the 82 Division Provost Group and Headquarters 82 Division elements. He urged the beneficiaries to regard the facilities as a collective responsibility and ensure their proper utilisation, cleanliness and maintenance to guarantee their durability.

While updating the audience with the progress of the project, the Chief of Staff (COS) 44 Engineer Brigade Colonel Dauda Magen stated that the projects were not merely physical structures but represent a deliberate investment in the morale, stability, dignity and welfare of soldiers and their families. According to him, the provision of suitable accommodation remains an important component of creating an environment where personnel can effectively discharge their professional responsibilities while enjoying improved quality of life. He thanked the GOC for his guidance throughout the period of construction.

The commissioning culminated in the formal unveiling and inspection of the facilities, followed by a group photograph, marking another tangible stride in the Division’s ongoing efforts to enhance troop welfare, improve accommodation infrastructure and strengthen the overall well-being of its personnel
